Gregwire Pharmacy Transforms Pharmacy Model with
Innovation’s PharmASSIST SmartCabinet Technology

Kansas Independent Differentiates Business and Enhances Customers’ Experience
with New Clinical Pharmacy Setting

JOHNSON CITY, NY – February 17, 2009 – Innovation, makers of PharmASSIST® pharmacy automation solutions, today announced that Gregwire Pharmacy of Russell, Kansas has successfully automated their prescription fulfillment process with the firm’s PharmASSIST SmartCabinet® system. Gregwire Pharmacy invested in Innovation’s automation to help achieve their goals of increasing efficiency, decreasing patient wait times, and freeing up their pharmacists for patient counseling. The pharmacy’s ultimate goal was to create a patient-friendly clinical pharmacy environment.

“We fill about 200 prescriptions a day and fill upwards to 350 on Mondays. Given this volume and taken into consideration moderate growth, and our staffing, I began looking at various counting and robotics systems that best fit our requirements,” said Patrick Hilger, R.Ph. and owner, Gregwire Pharmacy. “After doing my homework, I eventually decided on a single PharmASSIST SmartCabinet primarily because of the system’s in-depth quality control, simultaneous counting feature, and its scalability potential. You can simply add cabinets, each with 50 dispensers, as you grow, and that’s exactly what we did less than six months later.”

The pharmacy’s PharmASSIST SmartCabinet system comprises 2 cabinets/98 dispensers and automates the counting of their top prescription movers. The system seamlessly integrates with their Speed Script® pharmacy management system, ensuring real-time prescription order flow for all prescription fulfillment tasks.

With the automation playing a key role, Gregwire Pharmacy’s clinical setting has been a huge hit with their customers. According to Hilger, the system is a model of efficiency, enabling his staff to stay ahead of the volume and provide their valuable service of patient counseling. “We have three booths set up and many of our customers simply wait for their prescriptions and then meet with our pharmacists to discuss their medications,” said Hilger.

The SmartCabinet system receives prescription orders from Speed Script and counts and fills approximately 40-45% of the pharmacy’s overall daily volume. “Sometimes we have anywhere from 5 to 8 prescriptions counting simultaneously, which really speeds up delivery and helps us keep pace,” said Hilger. “I also have total confidence in the system’s accuracy. We have never had a mistake with this system. It has so many checks and balances, during replenishment and filling, that it’s been 100% error free.”

Hilger said he has interest in eventually migrating his 98-dispenser SmartCabinet system to PharmASSIST ROBOTx®, Innovation’s robotic dispensing technology, and can do that when increased volumes warrant the move and the time is right. “Overall, we have great flexibility with this technology. It’s had a tremendous impact on our business.”
